1.On which date does ANZAC Day take place?

ANZAC day takes place each year on the same date. The date is the 25th of April. But it became the 25th of April by the day when the ANZACs arrived on the shores of Turkey in Gallipoli. That day was on the 25th of April. The day they left was 8 months later and that date was the 20th of December 1915.


2. How long did the Battle of Gallipoli last?

The battle of Gallipoli lasted 8 months before the allies decided to retreat. The ANZACs retreated by putting water tanks on a gun so it shot at the enemy while they retreated. So while the ANZACs were retreating, guns were still shooting at the enemy so they thought they ANZACs were still there but actually they had left through the trenches.


3. How many New Zealand soldiers lost their lives to the Battle of Gallipoli?
About 2500 soldiers from New Zealand lost their lives in Gallipoli and about 8,000 soldiers lost their lives from Australia.

5. What turned a terrible event into a legend?
In the Battle of Gallipoli, they ended up retreating in the battle.
Many New Zealanders and Australians had lost their lives in the battle.
But the way it turned to a legend was how the bravery and
determination of the ANZACs
and that became an important part of history.


6. Why did the ANZACs go and fight alongside Britain?
Because the Australian were allied with Britain and France
and Britain had helped Australia when they were threatened by
Germany and New Zealand was allied with Australia so when Australia
needed to go fight they asked New Zealand to fight as well.
